Please reach us at liferoomdoula@gmail.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.
A Birth Doula is a trained support person who provides physical and emotional support continually for birthing people and their partners! We provide informational support, resources, skills and techniques for clients before, during and after birth.
Studies show doula support decreases the use of pain medication during labor as well as decreased incidents of c-section, decreased length of labor and an overall decrease in negative childbirth experiences! We focus on physical comfort through proven techniques (massage, counter pressure, touch, mindfulness, rebozo, etc). We provide skilled breathing techniques, emotional reassurance and encouragement! We help to ease communication with hospital staff and other medical professionals while providing guidance and support for loved ones!
Great question, I believe birth is a completely normal and natural life event. I believe people birth best in the environment they feel safest in and I believe in each persons freedom to choose what that looks like for them ( for some this is a hospital birth, for others this is a birth center or home birth). I believe in your body's innate ability to carry your baby during every stage of pregnancy, through labor and delivery. Lastly, I believe you know what philosophy is best for you and I am here to support you on your journey!
Great question! A Birth Plan is a document that clearly communicates your desires and preferences for your labor, delivery and immediately after. Here at Life Room we believe you know your body and we trust your intuition! We want to make space along the way for any changes to your birthing preferences as they come up through your journey. (Please note this document lists preferences and not guarantees, your birth plan is honored as much as possible as birth obstacles may not be able to be predicted)
Absolutely! We regularly attend hospital births and are happy to assist in a hospital setting!
Yes! We have a back up doula who will be available incase there is an unforeseen conflict.
No, a Doula is NOT the same thing as a Midwife. A Doula is a non-medical support person who empowers the birthing individuals through providing emotional and physical support as well as resources to promote informed decision making. A Midwife is a medical professional who cares for the birthing individual and baby through a medical lens and practice.
